A useful and inspiring guide to eating healthy, natural foods – by Katie Panamarenko
This week I thought it would be interesting to look at some synonyms for “organic”. I found these terms were not only alternates but also explained, almost poetically, what organic can mean beyond its simple synonym.
Animate – make somebody or something lively. Precisely what an organic diet can do for an individual who commits to an organic lifestyle. When you cleanse your body of toxins and hormonally altered foods you literally feel refreshed, energized and renewed.
Biological – of living things. There are no frills with organic. It is merely true, natural, untainted growth and production. And of course, pesticides are generally not of living things.
Cellular – containing small parts or groups. Going back to the individuals ideals and practices, condoning smaller farms producing higher quality but perhaps not as much quantity (as we have led ourselves to believe we need).
Constitutional – in accordance with the constitution. This one just gives me smile and perhaps a glimmer of hope that one day it will be constitutional to employee organic practices as law.
Elemental – basic. Organic practice is a simple concept. A crop or animal grows and produces at its own rate with nothing but that which it would/could use from the earth itself.
Essential – necessary. If we don’t take the dire steps of change we could do permanent damage to our soil and ourselves and, therefore, our quality of life.
Innate – present from birth. We are born organic. It is up to us to make it a priority to maintain that purity.
Integral – forming an essential part of something. Organic should be an integral part of our daily lives – in our meals, daily activities and more! Organic can span beyond food as well. It is a way of thinking, acting and being.
Primary – most important. Eating and more specifically nutrition is one of our primary means of survival. Why not make every effort to hold the highest standard for that which keeps us alive?
Prime – best. Organic is of the highest quality and of the purest form.
Primitive – first. In the beginning there was organic. No pesticides, growth hormones or mass production. Just 0rganic.
Vital – required for the continuation of life. Need I say more?
If organic is unattainable, the next best choice is to shop at your local farm stands. After all, we are the Garden State!
