Last year they raised more than $20,000 for charity. This year’s auction is a can’t-miss.
If you missed the exitement of last year’s Cape May Mermaid Guild King Neptune Bachelor Auction, you’ll get another chance to catch the action and help a good cause. This Sunday, September 19 at 5pm, there will be a parade of hunks on display at the Rusty Nail. They will all be strutting their stuff to win your affections… and bids.
The bidding wars are on, and a few shirts will be coming off, but it’s all for a good cause: The Community FoodBank of NJ Southern Branch. The FoodBank helps to feed thousands of homeless and hungry families and to support shelters and kitchens throughout Cape May, Cumberland and Atlantic counties.
Last year the King Neptune Bachelor Auction helped to raise more than $20,000, and they hope to exceed that number this year. “And, with the volume of food they buy, every dollar we raise buys $10 worth of food,” said Pat Jackson, a Mermaid and proprietor of Pat Jackson Jewelers.
“Honestly, my favorite moment of last year was when they started playing ‘It’s Raining Men’ and Pat Jackson saw her brother walking out on stage wearing a trench coat. When she realized what was about to happen she took off running, screaming ‘I’ve seen enough,’” shared Mermaid Sue Lotozo, owner of Flying Fish Studio.
