Why Should I Go? Imagine paddling through wetlands, your kayak illuminated by dazzling pinks and purples that trail across the skies as the sun makes its slow descent. An osprey flies toward the horizon, and you turn to see what you thought was a black skimmer.
Aqua Trails, run by Jeff and Tracey Martin, was established to provide kayak nature tours. They give daily kayak tours in the wetlands, as well as offering full moon and sunset tours. They also run popular ocean paddles, which start at the Cove, go past the lighthouse at Cape May Point and finish up at Higbee’s Beach.
Experienced kayak guides lead the tours… so don’t worry if you need pointers. Or you can rent kayaks and go your own way.
Kayaking is a beautiful way to experience the wetlands ecosystem, as well as interact with natural neighbors such as herons, oystercatchers, egrets, sandpipers, and a whole host of other marsh life.
Insider Tip: Reservations are suggested. You’ll get a bit wet, so in the summer heat, a bathing suit is best. And if it’s cool and breezy, try a windbreaker. Aqua Trails also now rents stand-up paddle boards
