Why Should I Go? Bella Vida is where the locals have eaten since the early 1900s and if you are traveling away from home, eating well isn’t all that easy. Fortunately for Cape Mayniacs, this quaint family friendly café on Broadway makes healthy eating not only accessible, but joyful.
Appropriately, the café owners, the local Monge family, draw inspiration from their own travels when putting together new dishes. Chris and Christopher Monge, who have spent a great deal of time surfing overseas, especially enjoys incorporating Costa Rican dishes with a Cape May twist. The name of the restaurant itself, Bella (meaning ‘beautiful’ in Italian), and Vida (which means ‘life’ in Spanish) pays homage to the family’s love of travel, as well as to their Christian European and Latin American heritages. And those who choose to dine at one of Bella Vida’s charming garden tables will feel as comfortable as if they were eating in their own backyard.
The restaurant offers plenty of options for the omnivore (including incredible half-pound all-beef burgers), but caters especially well to vegans and vegetarians, and those with gluten sensitivities. Choose from fish tacos, breakfast burritos, sensational salads, homemade soups and signature sandwiches.
Insider Tip: Bella Vida is family-friendly; even the pooch is welcome in the garden. And don’t forget beverages! They offer Costa Rican coffee, capuccino, lattes and espresso, and fresh-pressed carrot juice and fruit smoothies.
