Why Should I Go? Owners Joe and Truda Carney have five children — count them, five — between the ages of 17 and 24. According to Truda, their best ideas for the restaurant come from “experiences within the family” and what they themselves look for when they go out to eat. If you are hoping for a tasty kid’s menu as well as fabulous dishes for the adults, Carney’s will satisfy. Couples, ladies looking for a girl’s night out and hungry folks on their way home from work all find something delicious and affordable. In fact, seventy percent of Carney’s sales come from satisfied diners — lunch groups, early birds and evening diners. Of course, Carney’s nightlife is memorable as well! For over 30 years, this landmark hot spot has offered one of the coolest after-dark scenes in Cape May. It’s home to two rooms, linked by a swinging door that makes bar hopping convenient. The first of these, the Main Room, hosts live entertainment every night, including some of the tri-states best cover bands. In Carney’s Other Room, a DJ keeps the dance floor packed, providing the soundtrack to everything from Salsa Night on Fridays to the locally famous Eastern European parties. One trip and you’ll know: “If you haven’t been to Carney’s, you haven’t been to Cape May.”
Insider Tip: Daily Happy Hour is in the Main Room from 3-6pm, offering $2 domestic beers and $5 house wines along with $5 appetizer favorites… Spicy Steamed Clams, Loaded Chili Nachos, Wings, Peel ‘n Eat Shrimp, Carney’s Crab Seasoned Fries and Salt and Pepper Calamari. This is the spot for staying cool, listening to fun music, and watch sports on one of six flat-screen TVs! Carney’s also hosts karaoke on Tuesday nights.
