609 Columbia Ave.
Cape May, NJ 08204
Why Should I Stay There? This is one of Cape May’s finest B&Bs. This beautiful home was the first to be built on Columbia Avenue (in 1866), and it provides a Victorian-era experience with today’s comforts. You’ll be pampered in romantic, yet whimsical surroundings, with owners Chip and Barbara Masemore insisting that “everyone should be just plain silly sometimes.” Expect to see collections of vintage toys, games and bawdy ladies (they’re models — not humans).
There are open porches for balmy summer days, and glassed-in porches and the warm glow of a fireplace in the magnificent parlor for cooler nights. The beach, Washington Street shopping mall and Cape May’s fine dining restaurants are, says Chip, all within “a seven iron” (but let’s not test that theory, folks).
The Masemores expect you to relax and enjoy yourself here, but if you absolutely must work, don’t fret — they have WiFi throughout, and even a little private library off the main parlor.
“The John Craig House is like coming to a second home for us,” said one recent guest. We think you’ll agree. It’s everything you expect from a Cape May B&B, and lots of thing you may not.
