Why Should I Go? Dining at The Black Duck is a quintessential Cape May experience. To start, the building itself is a charming Victorian decorated with antique photos of Cape Island. And on the restaurant’s front porch, guests can enjoy taking deep breaths of just-off-the-ocean breezes, or listening for the not-so-distant clacking of horse-drawn carriages making their way through town.
But the biggest draw of The Black Duck is the restaurant’s food, which has contributed to Cape May’s reputation as a foodie town. Owner and Executive Chef Chris Hubert, who has done everything in his restaurant from painting the building to fixing seat cushions, has the most fun while cooking, and this shows in the cuisine he prepares. The menu is comprised of American fare with an Asian influence that’s best complemented with your favorite bottle of wine. Don’t forget, the Black Duck is BYOB. And yes, duck is on the menu.
Insider Tip: To make an evening at the Black Duck an even more memorable Cape May experience, guests are encouraged to head to Sunset Beach before or after dining for the flag-lowering ceremony that’s hosted there at dusk. Or work up an appetite by searching for the American Black Duck at the Cape May Point. This is a favorite bird of Chris’ son, William, and the inspiration for the restaurant’s theme. Chris also owns Godmother’s, another popular restaurant.
