Where Is It? Just in case you’ve just woken up from a coma — or somehow missed the Lobster House’s ginormous, iconic sign — it’s just over the Cape May bridge, on the Cape May side.

Why Should I Go? In Cape May, you’ll get ticketed for speeding… drinking alcohol on the beach… not paying your parking meter… not eating seafood… Okay, that last bit isn’t true, but even if you don’t like fish, when it’s this fresh, it should be a crime not to partake. (At least, we could get behind this law more than the parking meter ordinances, but we digress.)

The Lobster House is in the heart of the harbor, the second most lucrative fishing port on the eastern seaboard, which means when you eat here, you get not only a water view, but a view of the boats that are bringing in your dinner. But then, of course, you could choose to eat ON a boat instead — a 130-foot-long Grand Banks sailing vessel, to be exact. It’s called the Schooner American, or just the Schooner to locals, and it’s moored dockside. Order from the Schooner’s full bar, the luncheon menu, or a list of specialty appetizers. The off-the-water breezes are free, and so is the feeling you’ll get cracking into the first crab claw of the season. (Don’t you just love that sound?)

Insider Tip: For turf lovers, if we really can’t strong-arm you into trying the seafood, there’s also delicious classics on this menu. Go for take-out if you prefer, and make sure to check out the restaurant’s coffee shop (eggs benedict for $4.95 is a no-brainer to us.)
